Memories of Hawaii

My 'Hawaii Memories' series is a project that I have been planning for years but have delayed because of commitments to other undertakings in my art work schedule.  I made two trips to Hawaii and that wasn't enough to really take in what this beautiful paradise has to offer. Although Hawaii has been one of the United States since 1959, it is very far from the North American Continent (about 2,000 miles) and felt more like visiting another country. The 'Sun N Fun' Islands are popular with so many, but for me, Hawaii is so much more.  I was fortunate enough to visit the more popular islands in the chain and hope to capture my experience with this series of original oil paintings.

I'm unsure about how many paintings the series will include, but as each is completed, I will add the image to this page.  If interested, check back occasionally, or send me an email and I will add your address to my notifications list.

"The Road to Hana"

"The Road to Hana" - The Hana Highway is a 64.4-mile-long stretch which connects Kahului to the town of Hana on the beautiful island of Maui.  An uninterrupted car-trip takes about 2.5 hours to drive, since the highway is very windy, narrow, and passes over 59 bridges, of which 46 are only one lane wide. There are approximately 620 curves snaking along the route, almost all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete, stone and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one are still in use.  Most often a driver must yield to the another driver coming from the opposite direction nearest to the  bridge before crossing. To say that this excursion was a unique adventure is an understatement  … especially for the driver of the rental car (yours truly!).

My passenger seemed to really enjoy the magnificent scenery in every direction while I could only see what was directly in front of me afraid to take my eyes off the road for even a second. We did stop a few times and took some great photos.  The 'Road to Hana' is an adventure that I will never forget.  I hope that my first painting in the new "Hawaii Memories" travel series clearly portray that experience.

Original Oil on Canvas - 24" x 30" - $1475

"North Shore of Kauai" - I found the island of Kauai to be the most tropical, natural and undisturbed of the islands that I have visited.  The North Shore was particularly captivating.  The waterfalls, lush rain forest, colorful flowers and sandy beaches were prevalent from shore to shore. The quaint little towns were just charming.  My painting is meant to capture the essence of experiencing a typical end of day setting of the sun in the western sky.  The amazing colors, enhanced by the rays of sunlight, produce a fantastic assortment of reflections that are almost surreal.

The third painting in my "Hawaii Memories" series.Description: "Hidden Gems of Oahu" is the third-largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It has roughly one million residents … over two-thirds of the population of the U.S. state of Hawaii. The island of Oahu and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands constitute the City and County of Honolulu.

This Hawaiian island has all the historic, cultural, recreational, and many other attractions that most visitors look forward to experiencing. Things like the Pearl Harbor National Monument, The USS Arizona Memorial, Luxury Hotels and Resort, Fine Dining, Luaus, Outdoor Festivals and many more. On the other hand, for those of us that marvel at the natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu is world renowned for its spectacular lookout points, white sandy beaches, and unique wildlife.

My painting (Hidden Gems of Oahu), is a rendition of my recollection of the natural environment of Oahu. The bright sunlight amidst the puffy clouds present an abundance vibrant colors and shadows the are ever-changing and reshaping the landscape.
